Louise Barnsdale

Production

Head of production and design

With a creative flair from a young age, Louise opted to take Art and Textiles GSCEs, and following good grades, she went on to study three years of Art and Design courses at Stamford College, gaining BTEC National Diplomas in Foundation Studies Art and Design, and Fine Art, an A-Level in Textiles and a City & Guilds in Life Drawing.

From college, Louise spent a year in retail before landing a job as a trainee advertisement designer at Ashwell Associates, working on local newspaper titles The Rutland Times and The Local, and picked up design skills quickly. She moved to East Midland Newspapers Ltd, who were a part of Johnston Press, and was a key member of the production team, creating print adverts and ensuring titles arrived to the printers on schedule. A very organised and dedicated person, Louise is a bit of a perfectionist and is always keen to make things happen and to the highest standard.

Role at VBD

Louise has been part of the VBD team since 2008 after moving away from local newspaper and magazine publishing. With her history of advertisement design, she initially joined the production team at VBD to assist with classified and recruitment layouts, and the key tasks involved with getting a publication from page to print.

More recently, Louise’s role has developed and, as creative assistant, she now produces the majority of all creative items for the business and clients. Louise has successfully managed the VN Times Calendar Competition since its launch in 2012 and also designs our veterinary business title VBJ.

In 2018, Louise picked up her sketchbook again and reignited her love for drawing, and now creates pet and house portrait illustrations in her free time.
