Lisa began a career in publishing in 1992 at Emap setting up a picture library, temporary and part-time, on Today’s Golfer. When this contract ended, she then became an editorial secretary on Angling Times. Within the publishing company, when two new titles launched – Your Cat and Your Dog – Lisa became editorial assistant on both.
After 15 years, Lisa emigrated to Spain for her husband’s work and returned 5 years later to work for the same company as a production secretary. The company relocated in 2012 and this is where her journey with VBD started.
Role at VBD
As production assistant, Lisa plays a key role preparing flatplans, chasing for copy and processing adverts. She liaises with editorial and advertising departments to ensure the best balance of editorial and advertising pagination is achieved.
Lisa is also responsible for making sure artwork for special items – such as belly bands, false front covers and bound-on outserts – are all delivered to the printers in plenty of time. chasing and processing adverts and special items for all VBD publications. Additionally, she is the production contact for VN Times, making her instrumental in ensuring all issues of VBD’s nursing title go out as they should.
Designing recruitment adverts for potential advertisers is also one of Lisa’s day-to-day tasks. Putting together recruitment pages for the publications is a challenging, but rewarding aspect of her job, along with sending these publications to print at the end of the production schedule.
