How VBD started
Veterinary Business Development (VBD) was set up in 1990 by a veterinary surgeon who, as managing director of a veterinary pharmaceutical company, founded Vetfile, the first database of veterinary surgeons in the UK.
The business grew swiftly with the acquisition of Veterinary Times in 1991 and the launch of The Veterinary Business Journal in 1994. VN Times followed in 2000, by which time the business had been identified by global information provider Wolters Kluwer as an opportunity to grow its health care portfolio – and VBD was acquired in the same year.
Since then we have continued to go from strength to strength with Veterinary Times' frequency increasing from monthly to weekly (along with a 50 per cent increase in circulation), even more growth in circulation of VN Times (it's now sent to almost double the number of readers compared with its first year), the launch of www.vetsonline.com, and creation of an in-house design studio. VBD now has a staff of 30 employees, including a management team and two directors.
