Veterinary Business Development (VBD) was founded in 1990 by veterinary surgeon Douglas Hutchison after he identified the potential for a commercial database of veterinary surgeons and had subsequently created the Vetfile brand – still the UK’s largest and most accurate veterinary database.
The business grew swiftly and, with ready-made access to every veterinary surgeon in the UK through the Vetfile database, expansion into veterinary publishing was the logical next step. Veterinary Times was acquired in 1991 and a new business-to-business title (The Veterinary Business Journal) launched in 1994. A nursing title (VN Times) followed in 2000, with the business firmly established as the UK veterinary sector’s leading communication provider. Since then, VBD has continued to go from strength to strength, with each of its key titles’ frequency and circulation increasing to assume market leader status in their particular spheres of interest.
Following acquisition by new owners in 2013, VBD is rapidly replicating its success in print and database management by increasingly embracing the digital age. In 2015, VBD delivered its biggest venture to date with the launch of vet times.co.uk, a website designed to help every veterinary professional make more of the working day with his or her core need to undertake and record continuing professional development (CPD) intrinsically woven into its structure.
Our mission is to be the communication partner of choice within the veterinary professions and allied markets, providing innovative solutions for our customers.
